Setup guide

Set up IPTV on Roku

Roku doesn't natively run Android apps like IPTV Smarters or TiviMate, but the M3U Player channel works. Here are the trade-offs and the setup.

Recommended apps

  • Recommended

    M3U Player

The closest native option. Simple, stable, no EPG.

    Roku Channel Store

  • iPlayTV (via AirPlay from iPhone)

Workaround for Apple users — full EPG via the iOS app, AirPlay to Roku.

Step-by-step setup

Follow the steps in order. The full setup takes 5 min.

  1. 1

    Have your IPTV credentials ready

Your IPTV provider will send you an M3U URL or Xtream Codes credentials (server URL, username, password) by email after you subscribe. Have those details on hand before starting.

  2. 2

    Install M3U Player on Roku

Roku home → Streaming Channels → Search Channels → 'M3U Player'. Add channel. Free.

  3. 3

    Launch M3U Player

Open M3U Player from the Roku home screen. First launch asks for the M3U URL.

  4. 4

    Enter the M3U URL

Paste the M3U URL from your welcome email. M3U Player downloads the channel list (30-90 sec).

  5. 5

    Browse channels

M3U Player shows channels in alphabetical order by default. Use the menu button to create Favorites — the Roku remote isn't the smoothest, so favorites are essential.

Done! If anything still isn’t working, check your provider’s support page or email hello@streamnest.tv and we’ll try to help.

Troubleshooting

  • 'Invalid URL' error

Roku sometimes can't handle URLs with certain special characters. Copy the M3U URL into a URL shortener (bit.ly works) and use the short URL instead. Contact your IPTV provider to request an alternative URL format.

  • No EPG (TV guide)

M3U Player on Roku doesn't support EPG. This is a fundamental limitation. Workaround: use a Firestick or Android box instead for full EPG support.
